South Seas Pearl Vs Tahitian Pearl

Do you know the difference between a South Seas Pearl and a Tahitian Pearl?

South Sea pearls are naturally delicate pastel in hue and color. They range from being soft white to creamy champagne and pink. They are 15 mm or larger and come from the Pinctada Maximus oyster (gold and silver lipped) from the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Tahitian peals, on the different side of the spectrum, are bold and dramatic, since the natural color is black. Tahitians are very rare, averaging about 13 mm in size and come from the Pinctada Margatifera oyster (Black lipped) and come from the coast of Tahiti and sometimes, French Polynesia. Both Tahitian pearls and South Sea pearls are great additions to any jewelry box. Check out the saltwater pearls on the Saltwater Section of DRP website.
