What's in a Name?

I love what I do. More so, I love the people I meet, and the relationships that flourish because of it. If you are like me, first names often escape my memory. Mostly, I recall someone’s countenance, their smile, their eyes, their laughter, and beautiful essence. Observing a spirit is like peeking through the window of one’s soul.

Every soul’s name has a special meaning. I made a new friend with a beautiful name: Marguerite Jane. Jane often refers to herself as ‘plain Jane’, yet, she is anything but that. She’s a vibrant woman, well traveled, full of grace, love and of energy. She adores large pearls, and I am honored to design pieces to showcase around her beautiful neckline.

Preparing a Jade and South Seas Pearl pendant for her, I happen to notice her first name was Marguerite, and asked the meaning of her name. Neither of us knew, so I took a moment to look up the French derivation. To our amazement and laughter, it meant ‘Pearl’. Marguerite, the Pearl. How much more apropos could that be? She will no longer describe herself as ‘plain Jane’. From now on introductions will lead with, “Hi! My name is “Marguerite, the Pearl’! Plain essence becomes pearlescent.
